Welcome Baby Jacob!

Sunday was an exciting day for us. Mom woke up at 2:00 in the morning thinking...we need to go to the hospital. After waiting an hour and having four contractions that progressively got harder she woke dad up, they took Teancim to Leslie and Ned Prusse's and arrived at the hospital at 4:00am and we pulling into the ER parking lot when mom said, "I think my water just broke." Sure enough when she got out of the car water started going down her leg. (She was grateful to know she hadn't lost control and peed her pants.)
So while mom rode a wheelchair up to labor and delivery, Dad moved the car. I must say that the hospital could have been a little more tactful when dad made it to labor and delivery and told him that. All they said was that he couldn't go in my room yet. They could have said that I was admitted and was had to answer a few questions first and then he could go right in. Well he made it just fine and I got my epidural about the time that the pain was getting too much for me...(The nurse that put in my IV and tore up my hand forget to tell the head nurse that I was beginning to feel nautious, so after they had the epidural set up they had to wait for me to throwup and for the anti nausia medicine to kick in before they gave me the painkiller.
Anyways, six hours later Jacob was born..and here are the pictures to prove it

Baby Shower Fun

Thursday was a big day for me. A doctors appointment in the morning (i'm a 2 and 50%) and then baking pies and trying to finish up a novel for book club at 7:00 that evening...or so I thought.
I showed up to book club a couple minutes (2-3) early and there were already a lot of cars there...I think I counted 8 or 9. Great I thought, it probably started at 6:30 and I'm showing up half an hour late. So I walk up to the door mentally picturing how embarassed I would be interupting the discussion as I walk through late with two sour cream and raisin pies.
The sign on the door says come on in...I guess Leslie figured that some people would be late and didn't want to bother inturupting discussion with answering the door...even more embarassing.
I walk in and there are quite a few people there talking...but no discussion yet, maybe I'm not late, maybe everyone else is early.
I glance around...I know everybody there, but didn't know that half of them were in book club. Hey there's Nicole Williams, I'm glad someone thought of inviting her to book club. I'd been meaning to but never got around to it. I mention how great it is that someone invited her...then I realize that most people are looking at me.
Do you know what this is? someone asks...at least I think that was the question...my mind was a little slow because I was trying to figure out why I'm suddenly the center of attention. I see some baby items on the table behind Nicole and gifts under it."
"It's my baby shower" I reply, not entirely sure that it's the right answer...I had helped set a date for the following tuesday as my baby shower...I had a copy of the invitation at home to prove it.
I think I expected someone to laugh at me and tell me something else was going and I wasn't supposed to be there, at least I felt like I wasn't supposed to be there. I know now that it was because nobody expected me to walk right in, the sign on the door was for everyone coming to surprize me and was supposed to be gone by the time I arrived.
Needless to say my tension faded quickly (although I was embarassed that I had brought pies to my own baby shower...nobody had wanted to disuade me from baking them because they thought it would give the shower away) and the rest of the evening was filled with fun games and lots of girl talk...and who would trade that for a book club meeting? Not even me.

We had our second ultrasound today and the baby is doing fine. It was neat to see the baby in 4D. most of the time he was sucking his thumb or his fist, he did flash his muscles once, and in one picture we got he you can see his tongue sticking out a little. The scanned pictures are a little grainy, but you can kinda make it out.

Grandma's visit

Grandma Black came to texas last week to help out with baby Benjamin. We had teh chance to go and visit for a day, and boy was it fun. See the video above and the slideshow below for a glimpse of what we did. Teancum is still talking about Grandma and Ashlee and how he wants more.

Catching up

Alright, I know I haven't posted in a while. Its amazing how hectic and busy life can seem in a few short weeks.

So I missed putting up pictures from Teancum's Birthday Party. He had lots of fun and was definitly spoiled on the toys this year (sometimes it too easy to do). The party was actually thrown by the wives of the superintendent and the project manager at Ryan's work (both had sons turning one). They decided since Teancum's birthday was the same month they would include him in on the fun and got him presents and a little spiderweb cake etc. Ryan and I also celebrated his birthday with him at home with the Maxwell family traditional scavenger hunt to find the birthday presents...We did this a couple of weeks early though because dad was eager to try out the new basketball hoop with him. Here are the birthday pictures

I also missed posting for Halloween. Story hour at the library was that day and they did a halloween parade of the kids through the city offices where the employees handed out candy so Teancum had "Trick or Treat" down pat by the time we hit the streets that night. You've already seen Teancum in his tigger outfit so I'll just add a couple of pictures from the library of him and his friend Jackson. Teancum has the makeup on here so it's different from the other pictures. Jackson went as a Robins and Morton employee (his dad works with Ryan and they fixed up his hard hat to look like the ones they have to wear). Both the boys are way cute.

A new addition

Gabe and Becca just welcomed their third child into the world late Saturday night. Although the labor was painful it was quick and they have a beutiful baby boy now. Benjamin Jacob Black takes on a big name (his dad, great grandpa and other relatives all share the name Benjamin while Jacob is also known in the Bible as Isreal). For more pictures of the little one and his family check out the Blackfam.net website. I know I can't get enough pictures of this cute little guy.

pumpkin carving

A week ago we decided to carve a pumpkin for family night. I think what Teancum enjoyed most was getting inside the pumpkin. Check it out.
